Favorites: Outdoor Engagement Session

Wake Forest University Engagement

Beautiful backdrop for a sweet couple!

A bride recently gave me a beautiful compliment that commented on my style of photography by saying she loved the feeling of the images. That has really resonated with me over the past few days as I look through some of my favorite images to share with a bridal publication. I strongly believe in Herman Melville’s quote that “It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.” But…it’s even better to succeed brilliantly in originality! 😉

Photography styles are hard to define, and they’re as unique as each photographer. Although someone might try to imitate the image that you capture, there can never be a duplication. There is only one “me” and there is only one “you”! The feeling of that image happens in an instant, and in an instant it is gone…that’s what I love about what I do. I have the chance every day not to just document the angles and lines of someone’s face or a building behind them, but to capture the feeling of that moment for them to have forever.

Lauren and Santiago are one of the sweetest couples I’ve met. You can tell that they just flat out love each other. They’ve been there for each other through difficult times and fun times, and when you’re with them you feel like they’re so well matched with an unbreakable connection. The feeling I get from them as a couple is “we’re in this great big world, but we’re in it together and we love it that way!” That’s what I love about this image from their engagement session. It reminds me of Josh Turner’s “Would You Go With Me” – if you don’t know the song, you’ve gotta take a look (Josh Turner’s Would You Go With Me Lyrics). It’s just incredibly sweet.

Lauren and Santiago, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day. I hope you are enjoying your second year of marriage! May the road ahead be long and winding, and lined with wildflowers, so that you might always enjoy the journey.
