“Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them, filling an emptiness we don’t even know we have.” – Thom Jones
Today’s post is a personal one…a chance to say goodbye to a very good friend and companion, our Bella, whose ears were as soft as a puppy’s, and whose energy was boundless. She was with me for 12 years, and was the epitome of a faithful, loyal pup. It’s quite true that dogs have a way of finding us just when we need them most – Bella found me the year that my father passed away, and I spent many hours laying against her and just soaking up the quiet comfort that she shared.
“His ears were the first things to catch my tears.” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning
She was not always as calm as she is in these photographs – these were taken as she aged…but she was truly our “Marley” dog…from ripping the batting out of a mattress to devouring an entire supply of Halloween candy (the day before trick-or-treaters arrived), she found a way to get into everything. Her favorite things in life included chasing her ball, cuddling on the couch (whether or not you were ready!) and eating any and every treat she could sneak.
Bella was a rescue dog, and was supposed to find a new home shortly after I began fostering her…but she found such a spot in my heart so quickly! I think she knew from day 1 that she’d found her new home, and we were grateful for every moment she spent with us – even when we were cleaning up her latest adventure!
Bella, you are so greatly missed…I hope that you are spending your days basking in warm sunshine, chasing tennis balls like crazy, and knowing that you are so very loved.
